UK General Election
UK general election 2017
This real-time analysis (more detail is available here) identified in the final week of the campaign the Conservatives would not achieve a decisive majority. In contrast, almost all opinion polls showed a move towards the Conservatives in that final week. A majority of 50 or 60 was the general consensus.
Using a combination of deep neural networks, random forests and a range of graph theoretic community detection and node importance algorithms, we identified the major themes during the campaign.
The next chart shows a strong correlation between the volume of Brexit tweets and the Conservative lead in the opinion polls up to 31st of May. The chart above shows the volume of Brexit tweets falling in the final week of the campaign. This enabled us to predict a poor result for the Conservatives.
